Leaders in Minimally Invasive Procedures in NY and NJ.
Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a type of neurostimulation therapy in which mild electrical pulses are delivered to the nerves along the spinal column in order to interfere with or block nerve activity and minimize the sensation of pain reaching the brain. This method has been proven to be effective for those suffering from chronic pain in the neck, back, arms and legs.
Spinal cord stimulation therapy devices consist of a system of parts that work together to manage pain. During an SCS procedure, a small device is implanted near the spine that generates pulses – similar to a cardiac pacemaker – to a thin wire component called a lead. The lead then delivers the pulses to the nerves along the spinal cord, which modify the pain signals as they travel to different parts of the brain and change the way the body perceives pain. Successful SCS therapy results in relief from physical pain and the suffering associated with it.
While spinal cord stimulation has been used for more than 40 years, it is growing in popularity for the treatment of an increasing number of conditions, including chronic neck and back pain, failed back surgery syndrome, cervical and lumbar radiculitis, neuropathy, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) among others.
Spinal cord stimulation may be a treatment option for you if you:
Spinal cord stimulation may not be right for everyone and can only be deemed appropriate treatment by a qualified medical professional. Unlike more intensive treatments, SCS can be tried for a short period of time in order to determine the effectiveness of the therapy. If you are unable to operate the SCS system or do not experience pain relief during the temporary evaluation, it may not be a suitable treatment for you.
If you have been living with chronic pain and have failed to find relief with other treatments, it may be time to talk to the experts at Q Spine Institute to discuss spinal cord stimulation and the latest advancements in neurostimulation therapy.
